International Business and Trade
This course provides an overview o the theory of international trade and examines such contemporary international trade issues as the trade barriers controversy, the current account, international factor movements, commercial policy, foreign exchange, national monetary systems and jurisdictions, the open economy, the WTO, the European Union, and free trade areas. Current events are used to illustrate the underlying theory. Upon successful completion of this module, the student should be able to:
- To provide a thorough understanding of the theory and mechanisms of international trade
- To provide a thorough understanding of finance the WTO, and the contemporary issues in international trade
Financial Strategy and Policy
This advanced study of corporate financial strategy and policy includes a review of basic capital budgeting and valuation. The course examines a number of issues related to the long term investment decision process, cost of funds, capital structure, and the analysis of alternative financing strategies. A combination of workshop problem solving and case study methodologies is used to illustrate relevant theories and techniques. Upon successful completion of this module, the student should be able to provide a systematic approach to corporate investment feasibility and financing vehicles.
Financial Markets
This course enables students to show an understanding of the structure of financial institutions and the capital markets; know the location and functioning of the main financial centres; understand the role of the issues and borrowers, the investors and the intermediaries; know the regulatory framework; have been introduced to the theory and practice of the prediction of price moves; have an overview of the money market instruments, securities, bonds, derivatives and swaps. Specifically pricing of those instruments and securities and how they can be used for trading and hedging. The aim of this course is to provide a broad introduction to the financial instruments and markets from a global perspective. Students will be introduced to the subject matter using practical examples and case studies wherever possible. The course will draw upon the instructor's experience and students will also be strongly encouraged to contribute their own experience. Class activities and discussion will form a key element of the pedagogic approach.
Retail/Commercial Banking
This course aims to offering to graduate students a knowledge in the specialized field of Commercial Banking and Retail Banking. The aim of this course is to provide a broad introduction to the operations of both the commercial banking department and the retail banking department. Students will be introduced to the subject matter using practical examples and case studies wherever possible. The course will draw upon the instructor's experience and students will also be strongly encouraged to contribute their own experience. Class activities and discussion will form a key element of the pedagogic approach.
