The University of New York in Belgrade (UNYB), a part of the New York College Educational Group, was established in September 2006 with the aim of providing young people in Serbia with modern and exceptional higher education in a friendly and encouraging environment. During its first year UNYB offers MBA degrees from the Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch - IUKB from Switzerland and the National American University - NAU from the US.
The Group - Founded in 1989, NYC Educational Group offered educational programmes in cooperation with prestigious American and European universities (State University of New York – Empire State College, NAU, University of Louisville, University of New Haven, University of Sunderland, IUKB, La Salle University, Paris Graduate School of Management and University of Greenwich,...) and is the largest higher-educational organisation in Central and South-Eastern Europe.
Today, over 5500 students from more than 60 countries attend educational programmes at NYC Educational Group at both undergraduate and graduate levels. More than 400 professors and lecturers from renowned universities worldwide are responsible for facilitating the programme.
Studying the IUKB programme leads to an MBA in 6 areas of expertise: General Route, Banking, Marketing, HR Management, Management of Information Systems and Tourism Management. All lectures are facilitated by professors from the US, Switzerland, France and Greece.
NAU’s programme, Best of Both Worlds offers MBA degrees in Management, IT and Health Care Management. Its characteristics: flexibility of hours, specially designed software that enables students to follow the lectures of professors all over the world, emphasis on interactivity and practical application of knowledge, tailored specifically to business people who strive for academic growth and career development.
Both programmes offered at UNYB are facilitated in English. The duration of the courses is one year after which students are given 3-6 months for their Consultancy Project (with the support of UNYB). At the successful completion of their Consultancy Projects, students acquire a degree and are issued with diplomas by IUKB and NAU.
In autumn, UNYB plans to broaden its offer by introducing undergraduate studies of several of the universities within the Group.
Accreditation - The programmes and diplomas are recognised by accreditation institutions and governments of those countries where the universities are located: Higher Learning Commission (US), British Accreditation Council (UK), International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (US).
The first generation of post graduate MBA students of the Swiss IUKB, commenced their classes at the University of New York in Belgrade in January this year.
The aim of these specific-type studies is to enable young individuals to broaden their professional capacities and achieve a better development in their career. Showing that the need for this kind of education has begun to emerge in Serbia, UNYB can proudly say that among our first students are CEOs of major Serbian companies (NIS, Telekom, JAT, PKS), one of the directors of the National Bank of Serbia, management from foreign companies (Erstebank, Intracom, SAP) as well as some of our renowned entrepreneurs.
Making sure we give back the best to such an elite student profile, UNYB has selected an equally prestigious group of professors: so far lectures have been held by Professor Steve Smithson, head of IT Management Department at London School of Economics, Professor Claude Varley, long-time president of Coca-Cola France and others. Apart from their rich and contemporary knowledge of global business trends, they shared with students their invaluable experience in leading and organizing some of the worlds leading companies.
Remaining consistent with offering supreme educational opportunities, in September UNYB will present Professor Bob Taylor, Dean-Emeritus at the University of Louisville and chairman of the Initial Accreditation Committee of AACSB. Professor Taylor has gained fame in Europe by organizing open lectures in leadership in over 30 countries for years. This is how he earned his nickname “Leadership-guru”. Among its future activities, UNYB will offer these lectures to all interested students from all over the country.
The quality of the programmes offered made it possible to establish a Protocol of Cooperation with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Protocol was signed by the president of the Chamber Dr Slobodan Milosavljević and the president of the NYC group Mr. Elias Foutsis.
UNYB is located in Senjak, a prestigious residential area of Belgrade. The programmes are held in state of the art facilities and students are offered various means of support (library, career office,...). A new building is under construction which will meet the needs of the university in growth.
